The Wren property is situated along Rutherford Creek in the Pacific Ranges, approximately 10 kilometres south on Highway 99 from the town of Pemberton.

The area is underlain by a north west-trending roof pendant of metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Gambier Group is encompassed by diorite of the Jurassic to Tertiary Coast Plutonic Complex. Metavolcanic tuff is reported to be the dominant rock type. Several north west-striking shear zones, up to 750 metres wide, cut across the area.

Pyrite with associated gold and silver was initially discovered within silicified areas of the shear zones and in quartz veins cutting carbonaceous argillite. Later drill holes cut volcanics and monzonite carrying pyrite, pyrrhotite, traces of chalcopyrite and narrow, gold-bearing quartz veins.

In 1987, a sample (R6-1-87) assayed 5.69 grams per tonne gold (Property File - Caste Minerals Inc. [1988-01-29]: Geological Report on the Wren Claim Group).

In 1989, diamond drilling yielded intercepts of up to 0.60 gram per tonne gold over 3.0 metres in hole 89-4 (Property File - Caste Minerals Inc. [1989-01-01]: Diamond Drill Record - Wren)

In 1990, a sample of quartz vein within granitic rock assayed 1.5 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 20489).

The area was first staked as the GL claims in the mid 1970’s by the Rainbow Syndicate. During 1977 through 1980, programs of geochemical sampling, geological mapping, geophysical surveys and minor trenching were completed. During 1987 through 1989, Castle Resources completed program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling, five diamond drill holes, totalling 219.8 metres, and ground geophysical surveys on the area. In 1990, Noranda optioned the property and completed a program of soil and rock sampling, geological mapping and ground geophysical surveys. In 1993, the area was re-staked as the Bird claims by J. McDonald.
